ASK AN APPRENTICE: Kian Rushton
We talked to Kian about his experiences as an apprentice at Capula, here's what he said:
How long have you been with Capula?
4 months.
Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?
I am a hands-on person; I learn better by doing things rather than just sitting in a classroom environment. I really love the practical side of my role.
How are you finding your studies?
Quite easy to balance, work is busy but I am not overwhelmed or stressing about meeting deadlines. At college I have around 2 weeks to complete each module so I plan my time in to make sure I hit the deadlines.
How has Capula supported you so far?
Capula has provided me with all the tools I need to do my job. Everyone in my team is friendly and helpful, and I am finding that people are always approachable. If I don’t feel confident in carrying out a task, I can be open with my line manager who ensures that more training is provided.
How do you balance your work / life / studies?
I am focused on checking deadlines and then looking to space everything out throughout the week, that way I can try and complete work well in advance of the deadline. This allows me to review my work before submitting and allocate additional time if I need it. We are also given 3 hours on a Thursday morning to complete questions and tweak our work based on any feedback received from the tutor.
What do you enjoy about your role?
I have learnt a lot already and I know that there is more to come. The team are great in letting me develop my skills and try to problem solve on my own. I'm finding that this approach is really building my confidence, and where I think I cant work through an issue on a task I know that I have the support available if I need it.
