Capula celebrating 40 years in the UK nuclear industry

There are celebrations at Capula this summer as we mark the 40th anniversary of our first contract in the UK nuclear industry.

We were engaged by BNFL in 1974 to provide a system designed for Dounreay power station. Since then, Capula has gone on to provide control solutions on many nuclear industry projects both in the UK and further afield.

In the early days, projects were centred on the installation of our Instematic, and DS500 industrial plant controllers, but the mid-1980s saw us deliver a PLC-based system for the Effluent Transfer Facility (ETF) at Sellafield to mark our first venture into systems integration.

As we made the transition from product manufacturer to independent system integrator, the frequency of projects and the scope within them increased to the extent that we opened an office in Westlakes, Whitehaven to provide dedicated support to Sellafield, who has been a major client for over 30 years.

These days Capula provides a wealth of services for our nuclear industry clients who operate across the nuclear lifecycle from new build to decommissioning and IT support to defence. In late 2011 we formalised our Nuclear Services Division with the creation of the Capula Nuclear brand, which coincided with the launch of a dedicated website and opening of a secure facility in Staffordshire (Beacon House).

“Capula is well known in the UK nuclear industry for delivering high quality systems that fit our clients’ requirements,” said Managing Director Roger Turner, “It is this quality of delivery, combined with the knowledge and experience of our people, which has been and continues to be the cornerstone of our success.”
