Capula shortlisted for prestigious UK Energy Innovation Award

Capula is pleased to have been shortlisted for an award at the UK Energy Innovation Awards 2017. The event is hosted annually by the Energy Innovation Centre (EIC) to celebrate the best new technologies and innovations that are having a positive impact on the UK energy industry and benefitting energy customers.

Capula’s shortlisted entry in the ‘Best Innovation Contributing to Quality & Reliability of Electricity supply’ category features the innovative IMPERIUM solution. IMPERIUM was designed to ensure the reliability of the electrical supply and address energy challenges including the issue of lengthy electrical circuit outages which traditionally occur when upgrading substations. IMPERIUM has the powerful capability to reduce electrical outages to hours rather than days or weeks. The solution combines four essential elements; a unique database structure and the smart work methodology of Capula engineers, the unique capabilities of a DCCU unit*, together with off-the-shelf technology and zenon software developed by industry partners COPA-DATA.

“We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this award. It is a testament to the value and impact that our ground-breaking IMPERIUM solution is having on the network,” said Martin Payne, Business Manager for Transmission and Distribution at Capula. “IMPERIUM is an innovation that facilitates a fruitful partnership with energy network providers and is already helping to drive through the best value for energy customers.”

A panel of senior industry figures arrived at the shortlist for the award categories as the result of a stringent in-depth review. Winners will be now announced at an awards ceremony taking place in Liverpool on Thursday, 28th September. In attendance will be an array of energy network partners, innovators and providers including Wales and West Utilities, Northern Gas Networks and SP Energy Networks, the University of Strathclyde’s Power Networks Demonstration Centre, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, Northern Powergrid, Cadent Gas (formerly National Grid Gas Distribution) and UK Power Networks.

*Capula, an Imtech company, has developed a dual central control unit (DCCU), an innovative portable unit designed to temporarily assume control of all existing Remote Telemetry Units within substations so that upgrade works can safely be carried out. This enables the seamless integration in situ whilst monitoring/diagnostics facilities and core activities remain operational.
