Capula upgrading controls at SSE’s Fiddler’s Ferry

SSE has contracted Capula to upgrade control hardware at their Fiddler’s Ferry power station.

The 2000MW coal-fired power station in Cheshire has a number of Rockwell PLC 5 PLCs, which Capula installed in the late 1990s, that are now approaching the end of their useful life and becoming increasingly difficult to maintain.

Capula is replacing these with a new Rockwell ControlLogix PLC system, using the Rockwell’s PLC 5 Conversion Kit. We are responsible for replacing the physical hardware and conversion of the software to run under the new system while providing the same functionality as before. As part of the project, we will also have responsibility for all panel wiring, testing and commissioning of the system.
