Good news for major client Drax Power Station
We would like to congratulate our client Drax Power Station who were given a green light by the European Commission (EC) in December to complete the biomass upgrade of a third generating unit. The EC’s decision will now enable half the power station to run on biomass, providing enough renewable electricity to power three million homes.
Capula, part of the Imtech Group, has had a long working relationship with Drax, having installed the majority of their control systems that operate the business’s most valuable assets. Capula originally installed the control systems on three generating units nearly 20 years ago and since then has performed many modifications and enhancements to meet the evolving needs of the business, including the conversion of the units from coal to biomass renewable fuels.
“This is great news for Drax and we are very pleased to have played our part in supporting Drax’s energy vision and its commitment to deliver renewable forms of energy, a key focus area for the UK’s energy strategy.” said Mark Hardy, Capula’s Managing Director.
