Capula is delighted to have been shortlisted for an award at this year’s Sentinel Business Awards. Capula has been nominated for the Training Excellence category in recognition of its commitment to the training and personal development of staff from junior apprentices right through to senior engineers.
The Sentinel’s Business Editor Laura James said: “This year, we received a record number of entries in The Sentinel Business Awards. We had more applicants than ever before. The judges had a hard job in deciding the finalists, but commented that they were pleased with the calibre and variety of applications.”
Winners of all twelve award categories will be announced at a ceremony at the Kings Hall in Stoke-on-Trent on 21st March that will be attended by over 400 business leaders from across Staffordshire, as well as civic dignitaries and MPs.
“We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this award; this is evidence of our hard work in meeting the resource demands of the business. As there is a national engineering skills shortage, we find it difficult to recruit talented engineers, so we took the decision to create and train our own engineering workforce, a strategy that is really paying off,” commented Steve Tellwright, HR Director at Capula. “To retain our staff, we have also been investing in staff training and development and this concept is already helping to lay the foundations for future growth.”
At the current time, 21 employees at Capula are going through a training programme – whether that be through apprenticeships, college courses or foundation and masters’ degrees and over the next five to 10 years Capula aims to have at least 10% of its workforce in education.
Resource Manager Mark Slater said, “We want to support future talent and that’s why we take part in events in the community. We support KMF’s Young Engineer of the Year scheme and regularly stage STEM events at local schools. This is something we are going to do more of this year.”
